“TurboSeal is, in a word, magic. Even American civil engineers were all astonished.”

The Senior Vice President of Parsons Brinkerhoff, a global engineering firm based in the United States, offered such high praise regarding the waterproofing construction results carried out by a small to medium-sized Korean company.

‘TurboSeal’ is a non-curing adhesive waterproofing material developed by Renew System Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Jong-yong), a company specializing in the development and construction of waterproofing materials. Established in 1999, Renew System is a technology innovation company dedicated to the development of waterproofing technology. Recently, Renew System held a press conference at its ‘Renew System Yeoju Campus,’ a waterproofing material production plant located in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, to showcase its technological capabilities and production lines.

Due to a series of recent sinkhole accidents, the importance of preventing leakage and waterproofing in concrete construction, as well as underground structures, is becoming increasingly prominent.

To address this, Renew System developed ‘TurboSeal,’ the first waterproofing material in Korea capable of maximizing waterproofing performance while remaining in a non-hardened state. Conventional waterproofing materials typically harden after application to block leaks. However, in this scenario, if cracks form in the structure, the waterproofing material cracks as well, inevitably leading to renewed leakage.

TurboSeal was developed to address this issue. As a non-curing, high-adhesion waterproofing material, TurboSeal enables stable application even on wet or heterogeneous substrates based on its high adhesive properties. Furthermore, its non-curing nature allows it to withstand structural vibrations, movement, and cracks. It also possesses the durability to withstand temperature fluctuations ranging from -40°C to over 60°C.

Renew System's technological prowess has been demonstrated not only through TurboSeal but also through the development of 'TurboSheet GTR 3000,' a resource-recycling composite waterproofing sheet created by polymerizing waste resources with asphalt. By utilizing recycled materials such as waste tires and automotive waste oil for over 30% of the waterproofing material, the company contributes to environmental conservation and carbon reduction. This product maintains excellent waterproofing performance based on temperature resistance, tensile strength, elongation, and heat resistance. It allows for construction even in low-temperature winter environments, prevents the waterproofing layer from cracking or sagging, and features significantly improved heat-resistant adhesive properties.

Renew System has developed the "Polyas" method, which combines its representative waterproofing materials, TurboSeal and TurboSheet. Designated as a new technology by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Polyas method is expected to simplify construction processes, shorten construction periods, and reduce construction and maintenance costs.

CEO Lee Jong-yong asserted, "Thanks to such advanced performance, we have not only completed over 20,000 waterproofing projects domestically but also carried out approximately 2,500 projects across 29 countries, including waterproofing work for subways in Boston and San Francisco in the U.S., and Toronto in Canada." He added, "It delivers semi-permanent waterproofing performance with a single application." CEO Lee stated, “With human, material, and social disasters—such as ground subsidence like sinkholes caused by water leakage, the infiltration of naturally occurring radioactive radon gas, and groundwater depletion—emerging as serious social issues, we have continuously devoted ourselves to technological development with the goal of completely resolving water leakage and waterproofing defects.” He further expressed his ambition, saying, “We will strengthen our competitiveness in the global market through eco-friendly new materials and future-oriented waterproofing solutions.”
