There are no borders to the dream of complete waterproofing.

Renew System Applyes 'Waterproofing and Root Barrier Method' to Upper Section of Yulgok-ro P.C. Twin Arch Tunnel

Achieving 100% complete waterproofing by applying the latest 'waterproofing and root-resistant method' based on patented technology.

Renew System Co., Ltd., a South Korean advanced materials company that researches, develops, designs, and constructs new waterproofing materials and technologies, announced that it participated in the 'Road Structure Improvement Project in Front of Changgyeonggung Palace on Yulgok-ro' and successfully completed the tunnel waterproofing work.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is currently carrying out construction to tunnel Yulgok-ro and create a green space above the tunnel to restore the Changgyeonggung-Jongmyo green park, which was damaged by Algiers' policy of eradicating national identity. Following the completion of the tunnel construction late last year, finishing work is currently underway to open the park this coming June.

Renew System Co., Ltd. participated in the tunnel waterproofing work for this project. The company's latest waterproofing technology, the Waterproofing & Root Barrier Method, was applied to the Yulgok-ro waterproofing project.

A representative from Renew System stated, "The Waterproofing & Root Barrier Method involves applying a coating of EcoSeal, a high-adhesion flexible waterproofing material, followed by the installation of a copper root barrier sheet and then a protective layer." The representative added, "The Yulgok-ro tunnel, where this method was applied, achieved 100% complete waterproofing, with not a single drop of leakage occurring even during the record-breaking torrential rains last summer." The copper root barrier sheet used in the waterproofing and root barrier method is a material patented by Renew System Co., Ltd. It controls auxin (a plant growth hormone) to inhibit the growth of taproots, the thick roots of plants, while activating fine roots.

In addition, as a root barrier sheet with a long lifespan, it is effective in preventing cracks and leaks caused by tree roots when creating green spaces in urban tunnels, rooftops, or above underground parking lots.

EcoSeal, installed at the very bottom, is a flexible adhesive film waterproofing material that adheres to dissimilar materials even in extreme humid environments; it is a product that has obtained a patent for this specific function.

It can adhere to any dissimilar material and responds to the movement of the structure as if it were alive, enhancing safety and waterproofing efficiency. Furthermore, it is an eco-friendly product transformed from recycled waste rubber and has obtained the Green Technology Certification from the Ministry of Science and ICT. An official from Renew System Co., Ltd. stated, "Creating green spaces on the upper surfaces of tunnels, rooftops, or underground parking lots is a new alternative for securing eco-friendly areas in urban spaces where greenery is severely lacking. However, since creating green spaces on artificial structures can lead to issues related to plant growth, more meticulous waterproofing is essential."

The official added, "Through the waterproofing and root-resistant construction method, which has been proven to be excellent once again in the Yulgok-ro project, we will realize 100% complete waterproofing construction at various urban waterproofing sites in the future."

Meanwhile, Renew System Co., Ltd. is a specialized company in advanced new materials for waterproofing established in 1999, and currently possesses the only technology in South Korea capable of 100% complete waterproofing.

In 2013, its proprietary waterproofing technology was selected as one of Korea's Top 10 New Technologies by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
